Overview

Nylabone Advanced Oral Care Tartar Control Dog Toothpaste is a great choice as far as toothpastes for dogs go. If you don’t know what flavor your dog may like, this is a great starter. The price is decent so you can’t go wrong. As a company, Nylabone is very well-known and manufactures many goodies for your pet such as chews, toys, and treats. They certainly know what they’re doing when it comes to oral care products.

Why You Should Care About Brushing Your Dog’s Teeth (At Home)

Brushing your dog’s teeth reduces the risk of periodontal disease. A healthy mouth (teeth and gums) can lead to a longer healthier life of your beloved pet. At-home brushing, using your own supplies, saves you money in the long run from having to bring your dog to a veterinarian for a teeth cleaning. Professional teeth cleaning can be quite costly and anesthesia is usually involved. So, these types of cleanings should only be done if absolutely necessary.

Features at a Glance

  • Formula proven to reduce plaque and tartar buildup
  • Likable flavor (similar to a syrup/molasses flavor that’s completely safe for dogs)
  • Freshens breath by killing the bacteria that’s harboring in your dog’s mouth
  • Made in the USA

Note – Plaque is the sticky colorless film of bacteria that forms on teeth. If not removed by brushing, plaque turns and hardens into tartar (a yellow or brown color). When this happens, your dog is very susceptible to dental issues, bad breath, and gum disease.

These teeth are in need of some cleaning!

Pros:

  • Provides oral health benefits
  • Sweet and fresh scent
  • Less expensive compared to similar toothpastes for dogs

Cons:

  • Not every dog will love the flavor since dogs (just like humans) have a preference on taste. However, for the price at $4.59, it is not a huge loss if your dog absolutely refuses this toothpaste.

Final Thoughts & Next Steps

One of the best ways I evaluate a product is whether or not I would buy the product again. In this case, my answer would be yes! As soon as we finish the current tube of Nylabone Advanced Oral Care Tartar Control Dog Toothpaste, I will be purchasing the same one again. I know my dogs like it and it works great in cleaning their teeth. So without a doubt, I would recommend this toothpaste to other dog owners.

A Word of Caution

Caution Sign

Whatever toothpaste you decide to use, NEVER use human toothpaste as this can cause stomach upset in your dog or worse. Most human toothpaste is made with fluoride and other non dog friendly ingredients, which are considered toxic for dogs when ingested. For us humans it is okay because we spit out the toothpaste and rinse out our mouths with water. Imagine trying that with your dog? No thanks.

Stick with toothpaste specially formulated for dogs. With dog toothpaste, you don’t rinse so that makes things a lot easier. If for some reason your dog doesn’t like the toothpaste at first, I would encourage you to try again the next day. Something new, including a different flavor and texture, doesn’t always work out on the first attempt.

Good luck!

-Valerie
